Healthy School Lunches your Katy Kids can Make

Let's face it, making a school lunch every day can become overwhelming. But it doesn't have to be.

Teaching your child to make his or her own lunch can not only give you more time in the morning to do other things but it can foster your child's self-esteem as well as teach responsibility.

Here are some helpful tips:

  • Pack anything that does not need to be refrigerated at night
  • Have a set rule for what your child can pack: at least one veggie, one fruit, a protein, one snack/treat item, one drink
  • All refrigerated items can be packed and put in the same place in the frig each evening
  • After breakfast, remind your child to put his/her cold items in their lunch bag
  • Making PB&J sandwiches in bulk and then freezing them in freezer bags will help packing lunches easier (simply have your child grab a frozen sandwich in the morning. By lunch it will be fresh and ready to eat.) And you can cut them into fun shapes.
