School is in full swing and I guess most of us survived the back to school transition. Looking back, are there things you would do differently?

Shop early for hard to get items like special school supplies, shoes, and clothing.
Preplanning for clothes to be worn, lunches to be packed and breakfast that will be eaten in the morning.

Allow your children to help make their own lunch and pick out their own clothes the night before. It will help teach them to be more independant and give you some free time!

Get plenty of sleep leading up to school starting! We started a couple of weeks with our earlier school year bedtime and it made waking up and getting ready much easier!!

Lay out five outfits for each of the school days for the week. When your child wakes up and "isn't feeling" Tuesday's outfit, there are other totally matched outfits at the ready.

Plan. Communicate. Schedule.

I suggest planning ahead of time during the summer months. I made several visits to the my son's new school as well as complted my school shopping throughout the summer months. As soon as I received a calendar, I plugged all of the dates into my blackberry along with reminders. I also iron all of his clothes 2-weeks in advance.

I communicated my expectations and had a "back to school" discussion with my son so that he understood what to expect.

What ever you do, stick to a schedule. Morning and after school, and night time schedule. Set a routine for everything. I am working on this one!

I have three tips: 1)Prepare school lunches the night before 2)Pick out clothes the night before 3)Post a calendar by front door or telephone to keep track of due dates and plans.

Make pb&j sandwiches ahead of time and store them in the freezer for quick lunches and get the kids clothes prepared and laied out the night before- so there is no areguing over what they will wear in the morning.
