WHAT: It’s time for National Children’s Book Week, so celebrate summer reading and children’s literature with performances, activities, challenges and more just in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
Spotlight Performance — Lisa Harris: Listen to soprano and storyteller Lisa Harris perform her original songs and stories about mothers in the Auditorium.
Event times: Thursday, 6:30 p.m. during Free Family Night, and Saturday, 2 p.m.
ONGOING ACTIVITIES:
FETCH! Challenge Lab: Have you seen the kids show FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman on PBS/Channel 8? Stop by Science Station to check out the new challenges Ruff Ruffman has whipped up for you. Design roller coasters, helicopters, and cup structures, and follow Ruff’s clues to save the day!
LED Mommy Bling: Pearls, rubies and diamonds are nice, but if you really want your bling to have zing, make it glow! Invent jewelry pieces for yourself or Mom that incorporate LEDs into the design while learning about how they work at Invention Convention. Note: $2 fee for LED kits.
Imagination Junktion: Add your favorite book character to the National Children’s Book Week bookmark designed by artist Sara Varon and play a matching game to see if you can pair up each book cover with Still Life: Good children’s books have good illustrations! Use watercolors to create a realistic or abstract image of everyday objects at Alexander Art Academy.
