The James E. Taylor High School Band which was voted "Best Marching band in Houston" in the Channel 55 Grid Iron Award and was recently invited to perform in Pre-Game festivities at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, is starting a new and exciting tradition: A parade for the neighborhoods surrounding Taylor High School.

Date: August 14, 2010 Time: 9:00-12:00, 1:00-3:00 (lunch approximately 12:00-1:00 at Memorial Parkway Jr. High)
Music to be Played: All stands music for the 2010 marching season

The goal in this venture is three-fold:

• First and foremost, we want to provide entertainment for the supporters of our program.
• Secondly, we want to gain exposure from the supporters of our program.
• Lastly, we are going to use this as an opportunity to raise funds for the 2010-2011 school year. The members of the band will be accepting pledges or donations (donations recommended) for total marching distance.

In addition to pledges, for a minimum donation of $100, the entire 300-piece marching band will provide a small personal concert containing songs chosen by the individual houses or cul-de-sacs along the route (list of songs will be provided). These concerts and donations will take place along the parade route (click here for the map). We will kick off the fundraiser part of the activity with the students on the first day of summer band. As this is a mandatory activity for the all members of the band and color guard, we encourage everyone to get out there and get pledges/donations from their friends and families. We will be asking each student to raise a minimum of $50.00 in pledges. Even if only ten family members, neighbors, and friends donate $5.00 each, that goal would be easily accomplished. The beauty of this fundraiser is that it is PURE PROFIT!!! We have a great opportunity to make a considerable amount of money for the band program to keep doing all the great things you’ve known and loved from the JET Band over the years.

Come watch the JET Band, which has received 15 consecutive years of 1st division ratings at UIL Marching Contest, entertain the community. Safety is a priority, so we will be working with local constables and fire department to secure our route and the students will be marching at a leisurely pace with frequent water breaks. They will finish the day with a pool party at THS to cool off.
