      Remember when toys were not electronic and difficult to play with? When pet rocks were all the rave and contests were held in its honor? Join CMH as we re-visit the good old days with some of our favorite classic toys and study the science behind them.

    • Mini-Retro Magnet Craft: Making decorative crafts was a popular activity during the 1960s and 1970s. Make a home made magnet magnifying a classic retro design, like a flower or happy face.

      • Hula Halau Ho'o Ka La Mana O Hawai'I by HCC Dance Co.: Spotlight Performance. Come see this exciting group perform a Hula dance.

        Saturday, July 18: 2 p.m.

      • Retro Sci-Fi: Daily Special. The future as envisioned from the past comes back to roost at the Children's Museum of Houston. Come dressed as a character from favorite sci-fi show or movie and see others’ wild costumes. Be sure to make your own alien-proof foil hat and do far-out science activities. Construct robotic bugs, and if you don’t own an alien costume, come design one. Envision the future retro-future now.

        Saturday, July 18: All Day

      • Pet Rock: Make your own pet rock and teach it to “sit.”
      • Paper Dolls: Design a two-dimensional paper doll and see how kids in 1810 entertained themselves.
      • Lincoln Logs: Play architect with this timeless classic by John Lloyd Wright (the son of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright) and make all kinds of buildings.
      • Blast from the Past: The Science of Classis Toys: Slinky’s, Rubik’s Cubes and Jack-in-the-Box make a comeback at the Science Station.

 

      • MUSEUM HOURS: Mon. – Sat.; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sun: Noon – 6 p.m.
      • Included with general Museum admission: $7 per person and $6 for seniors 65+. Children under 1 and Museum Members receive free admission.

      Free Family Night every Thursday 5 – 8 p.m.
