One acre of land in Old Katy, 5806 4th Street to be exact, is now home to The House of Drums and Bass.

The owner, Mark Ferow, has been living in Katy with his family for seven years. Mark has played with musicians and bands ranging from garage bands to national acts.

When asked why he opened "The House" he replied, "The families from my church needed some good lessons for their kids and my phone hasn't stopped since!"

Mark's goal for "The House" is to use music to bring families closer by having moms and daughters and sons and fathers taking lessons.

What does this mean for Katy? Katy now has a full service Drum and Bass Guitar shop that not only offers great deals on gear and repairs, but a recording studio, voice lessons, summer camps, guitar and drum lessons (for children 6 and up), and beginning August 22nd free concerts as well.

Now that's truly a place that can't be "beat"!

It's almost unbelievable that Back to School is already on the minds of Katy families. Just when some families are settling into a summer routine and enjoying the lazy days of summer, stores are beginning their Back to School sales.

For those Katy families hoping to save money on supplies, though, this is the time to shop. Even if you take one summer day and get your shopping done now, you'll be glad you did later. Not only will you save money, you will find items in stock, miss the long lines, and be able to enjoy the last days of summer having fun (instead of stressing).

Also, through August 16th, The Katy Family YMCA is collecting school supplies for Operation Backpack. Pick up a few extra supplies to help a family in need.

The next few weeks will be filled with stores competing for early Back to School Shoppers. Check stores' weekly ads before going.

Staples- 12 pack pencil top erasers are.05 (limit 2), 2-pocket folders are .50 (limit 2), 1/2 to 1 inch binders are .50 (limit 2)
Target- Elmer's Glue Sticks, Erasers, Pencil Sharpeners or Rulers are .20 each, Construction Paper (96-count), Crayola Colored Pencils (12-pack) are .88 each
Office Depot- Will price match and if you recycle printer ink cartridges there they will give you a $3 store credit.
*Wal-mart, Target and Office Depot will price match if you have the ad and the item is the same.

Keep in mind that many times children need supplies in the middle of the year to replenish supplies that have been consumed. Shopping now and storing them for later will save you money.

After you've taken care of your shopping, reward yourself. Do something nice for YOU because you deserve it.
