Several holiday family events are coming up in Katy and stores have been decorated for Christmas for awhile. But... don't forget Thanksgiving.

With all the focus on the upcoming Christmas holiday, it can be easy to forget to focus on being thankful. There are several ways that Katy families can not only focus on being thankful, but can have fun doing it.

Thanksgiving Ideas for your family:

• Have each member of the family write what they are thankful for from now until Thanksgiving on note cards. Save them in a jar. Before eating Thanksgiving dinner, read each one and have everyone guess who wrote it.
• Go to the 60th Annual HEB Thanksgiving Day parade.
• While dinner is being prepared, have family members and friends write what they are thankful for on a large piece of butcher paper that covers the dinner table. Before or after eating, have each person read what they wrote. Provide colored markers so that members can be creative.
• Make a "Turkey Trivia Place card". Get the details.
• Have children make cards to thank those they come in contact on a regular basis: mail carrier, teacher, Sunday school teacher, etc.
• Start a thankful time capsule. Add pictures and notes of thankfulness from each member. Save and open the following Thanksgiving.
• Make a "Thanksgiving Tree": Use a long length of brown craft paper and draw a bare tree on it (or use sticks in a bucket). Cut leaves from colored paper. Every night at dinner write something you are thankful for on a leaf and tape it to the tree. When thanksgiving arrives, the tree will be full of thanks. On Thanksgiving read the leaves off the tree.
• Participate in The Turkey Dash at the Katy YMCA as a family.
• Create a Thankful scrapbook page. Have each family member write what they are thankful for on a scrapbook page and add a family portrait taken during Thanksgiving later. Make one page each year to create a family thankful book.
