Ever wonder about wildlife? The Texas Forest Service has teamed up with multiple organizations to develop a pioneer outreach program for children. More Kids in the Woods is a funded campaign designed to inspire youth and their families to pursue outdoor experiences.

At the Children's Museum of Houston, families will have the opportunity to participate in interactive and educational activities, exhibits and programs and learn about all the different types of snakes and reptiles native to Texas and how to better their natural habitat. Kids will also get the chance to hold live snakes and hissing cockroaches.

In addition, you can also meet Smokey the Bear, who will talk about fire safety and how to prevent forest fires.

Participating organizations include: Texas Forest Service, US Forest Service, Stephen F. Austin State University, Urban Connections, Amigo del Bosque, and Heartwood Chapter Texas Master Naturalists.

A new Children's Resale Shop, The Children's Carousel, in Katy is full of treasures waiting to be discovered.

Owner Kathryn Baker has lived in Katy for 25 years and has a passion for babies, children, and cloth diapering which comes in handy with her 21 grandchildren.

So what makes The Children's Carousel unique? Kathryn said it in her own words, "I wanted this shop to provide more than just used baby/children items for my customers. I wanted to provide a comfortable environment where parents can shop with their children. The shop has a play area with lots of toys and a TV with a big selection of movies for the kids to watch while their parents shop."

Part of Kathryn's dream in becoming a resource for the Katy Parent is to provide more than just a retail outlet.

The Children's Carousel provides a meeting place for informative free or low cost meetings for parents. Some of the activities include car seat safety classes, cloth diapering meetings, baby wearing, natural family planning, and cloth diaper sewing classes.

The Children's Carousel has about anything and everything you will need or want when it comes to parenting.

They offer (and accept) gently used children's clothing from preemie to preteen, toys, gear as well as maternity wear. In addition to its upscale children's resale items and gently used toys, The Carousel has adorable new boutique clothing, bows, slings and decor made by Katy Moms, as well as a variety of cloth diapers and cloth diapering supplies, new Melissa & Doug toys and educational items.

The Children's Carousel is located at 5625 3rd Street in Historic Downtown Katy. They are open from 10-6 Monday through Friday and open late on Thursdays until 8pm and Saturday from 10-4.
