This summer children all over Katy will be asking to go to the movies. How will you know if a movie is appropriate for your Katy family?
Just because it's featured on a cereal box or comes in a Happy Meal does not mean it is appropriate for younger school aged children.
Obviously, what works for one family may not for another.
The G or PG ratings can be misleading so reading reviews from others might help in making a decision.
Here is a short list of sites that may help:
- ScreenIt.com: Free weekly newsletter that details new movies and video releases. FreckleTown's favorite.
- Kids-in-Mind.com: Each movie receives three objective ratings instead of recommending an age.
- Dove Foundation: Movie ratings give conservative ratings for each movie.
- CommonSenseMedia.org: parent reviews and kids’ reviews, with a recommendation on the minimum age that would be appropriate for a particular movie.
Movies are a great way for families to spend a morning, afternoon, or evening together. Don't forget the $1 movies that are available in Katy theaters this summer. Because although going to the movies can be fun, it can also be a bit pricey. |

Summer has officially arrived!
If you are disappointed at the way you look this summer, and you feel that your swimsuit doesn't fit they way it should, I'm going to give you a second chance at summer!
The Katy Summer Slimdown Challenge is my way of encouraging Katy residents to get in shape. I know how challenging the summer can be.
- It's hot outside.
- The kids are out of school.
- We have a vacation planned.
- It's really hot outside!
I have been thinking a lot about how to reach out to you, to encourage you, to motivate you, and to help you change. I know that contests really encourage people to get motivated, and that's why I am doing this. People like to win, right? All contests need a prize though and this is one you will want to win!
So with all of that said, here are the details.
