Organized Baked Goods? You Betcha!

Now I’ve seen many organizing products and have recommended my fair share to clients, but this past weekend I received a gift that blew my mind.

See, my friends and family knows I love to bake, and also know I am the worst at traveling with my baked creations. Disasters too numerable to mention have occurred in my car, and I refuse to correct my driving habits. Over the years I have tried my fair share of products with little to no success.

So in an effort to improve my transport of bakery items, I was given The Piatto. This product is way cool and really does help in organizing baked goods of all sorts - round cakes, pies, cupcakes and cookies.

It is plastic, hexagonal in shape, and has a removable ‘shelf’ inside that creates 2 separate carrying areas. You can place 2 layers of cupcakes with no problem, or 2 pies stacked neatly on top of each other – you get the idea.

Best part? It folds flat for easy storage. Ooooh I like it! You can find an 8-pc Piatto set on Home Shopping Network for only $29.95, and it is available in 8 colors to match any kitchen (or, in my case, car).

What a terrific idea with the upcoming holidays and perfect for transporting cupcakes to your kids’ school. Definitely a baker’s delight. (And to those who win the FreckleTown Cake Giveaway from Austin 300, you can collect your prize in style... although the cakes are so big you'd better bring a wagon!).

Katy Mom "Bakes" A Difference

After Hurricane Ike sent his calling card, Carol Schwartz decided to send a different calling card. Carol is a Katy resident, local mom, and small business owner.

Not knowing what else to do, she decided to do a bake sale. She baked for days and with the help of her children, Crystal and Jarret, they set up for business with a goal of $500.

Neighboring children, Evon Goodwyne, Alex Gannon, Olivia Claire and Haly joined in the effort. By noon their goal had been reached and the decision was made to keep selling.

The total amount raised was $966.72, in one day!

Carol then went to Grace Fellowship shelter to donate, only to find that the shelter had been closed. Grace Fellowship, referred her to Erin Cox, a church member, who was doing a clothing/book drive for O’Connell Senior High School on Galveston Island. Erin was working with Cornerstone Presbyterian, The Fellowship at Cinco Ranch and Compassion Katy.org. to meet the urgent needs.

The “Bake Sale” money
will be used to provide Gift Cards to help the children and the families most in need from the hurricane. It just takes one person, one family, or one group of average, ordinary, everyday superheroes to make a difference, one cookie at a time.
