Children’s Museum of Houston celebrates Cinco de Mayo with ballet folklórico and festive activities during Free Family Night Thursday, May 5

WHAT: Let’s fiesta! In 1862, Mexico defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla. Join the fiesta as the Children’s Museum of Houston (CMH) celebrates Mexico’s heritage on Cinco de Mayo. You will learn about this historic event through fun, hands-on activities.

Spotlight Performance — Las Américas Ballet Folklórico: Be amazed as this group of kids (led by Gustavo Gallardo) performs the many regional dances of Mexico in full traditional costumes, music and flair. Event Time:  6:30 p.m. during Free Family Night

Musical Maracas: Shake, shake, shake it up! Make your own traditional Mexican percussion instrument, called a maraca at Junktion.
Firework Frenzy: This celebration calls for fireworks! Head to Junktion to create your own pretend fireworks by taping shiny red, white and green ribbon to a craft stick—they’re the colors of Mexico’s flag!
Papel de Picado: Make a colorful traditional banner while learning intricate craft skills.
Yalálag:  A Mountain Village in México Exhibit.  Take a journey “South of the border” to a village located in the Sierra Juárez Mountains of Oaxaca, México.

Join us for 31 Cent Scoop Night at Baskin-Robbins and help us honor America's firefighters. The Baskin-Robins Community Foundation is donating $100,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).

Participating stores will reduce the prices of ice cream scoops to 31 cents. At some locations, you may also have an opportunity to make a donation to your local fire charities.
